The Incident & Comeback

That professional foundation was tested in a very public way on June 15, 2023, during the Denver Nuggets championship parade. While working to protect the crowd, Justin was struck and severely injured by a fire truck. The injury ultimately led to a below-the-knee amputation. What followed was not only a fight to recover physically, but a deeper test of identity, purpose, and mindset. Over the months that followed, Justin endured multiple surgeries, extensive rehabilitation, and the demanding work of rebuilding his life at home, at work, and as a leader.

He did more than recover. He came back. Public coverage of Justin’s recovery documents that he returned to full-time active duty with the Denver Police Department and METRO SWAT after meeting the same rigorous standards required of the rest of the team. His comeback has been profiled in national and regional coverage because it represents far more than survival. It reflects grit, preparation, belief, and the refusal to let one devastating moment define the rest of a life.

Justin’s New Mission

That experience sharpened Justin’s mission. Through Heavy Victory, he shares a message rooted in real life: adversity will come, identity can be shaken, and the hard seasons do not care how prepared you feel. But people can still choose discipline, perspective, and forward motion. Justin speaks from lived experience, drawing from law enforcement, tactical leadership, recovery, fatherhood, training, and service to help others navigate challenge with resilience and purpose. His public interviews and profiles consistently center that blend of operational credibility and human perspective.

What makes Justin’s message different is that it reaches beyond one type of audience. He can connect with first responders, tactical teams, leaders, students, healthcare and wellness audiences, sports-minded groups, and community organizations because his story sits at the intersection of pressure, pain, comeback, and service. He has also become known for using that story to encourage others facing their own difficult season, whether that is through media appearances, public speaking, or time spent with hospitals, survivor-focused communities, and service-centered events.

Heavy Victory’s Purpose

Heavy Victory is the extension of that purpose. It is not just about overcoming one injury. It is about what happens when life gets heavy and a person decides not to quit. Justin’s work is about resilience with substance, leadership with scars, and hope that does not ignore hardship. He brings a message that is practical, honest, and deeply earned: you may not get to choose every hard thing that happens to you, but you can choose how you respond, how you rebuild, and how you carry that story forward to help someone else.
